Hi,

As you may have noticed I have been suffering "Server disconnected" issues mid game. This forum post is intended as a paper trail so may anyone else have a similar issue this could at least be something to look at.
I was lost as to what the cause to this disconnect. Of course the first thing to do is blame EA. But I was in the dark as what it could be until I looked in the security log of my internet router.

----- Warning: Nerdy background stuff ahead you may skip.
My internet is provided by means of a router. This is just a network switch (LAN) that connects to the internet (WAN) using PPPoE.
Some background on this PPPoE; this is the connection between my router and my internet provider. In the past this would have been the protocol (SLIP) between my computer and my modem.
Today the computer is on the LAN and the router has taken over the job of dealing with the internet provider.
----

Because the router takes care of dealing with the internet provider they have put some security measures in there.
When I reviewed the log I found lines like these that caught my interest:
11/23/2018  19:11:57 **UDP Flood (per Min)** 216.239.32.116, 443->> 192.168.2.15, 62854 (from PPPoE1 Inbound)

The timestamps seem to be around the same time I had my server disconnect!
This was my Eureka moment after which I uncorked a bottle of wine and drank it  ;D
My router has been blocking the UDP stream as it 'thinks' I'm being attacked!

Finding a solution to this is a different matter. Especially after that bottle of wine was empty.

Nevertheless, the router does not have that many settings in this regard.
The only thing that caught my eye was the "Enable UPnP IGD Device" which was off.

----- Warning: Nerdy background stuff ahead you may skip.
UPnP is a protocol that enables devices on your LAN to change configuration of other devices on your LAN.
IGD stands for Internet Gateway Device.
So, in theory I have enabled a way that Battlefield (on my PC = Device on my LAN) can automatically configure my router (= IGD).
Fingers crossed it does.
----

I flipped the option to on and this appeared in the log when starting a battlefield game:
11/23/2018  20:32:10 UPnP add port mapping from 192.168.2.15 to port number 3659 Successful.

Hurray! Those guys at EA implemented it properly and changed my routers configuration for me  :D
I played for a while on various servers BF1 and BFV and have not been disconnected yet.

Hopefully this solves my server disconnection woes.
I will edit this message accordingly and/or continue to log my mission given to a player to complete for rewards.

After a while playing I'm confident this has fixed the issue.
