Thanks to the AM4 platform CPU changes are a drop-in upgrade. I am still using my X370 board that I bought with a 1700x, upgraded to a 2700x and am now running with with a 3800x.
The BIOS updates are still not optimal for the new chip in this board, but the signs are very promising.
